A Blank Place on the Map – Gold Creek Pond

by | Nov 22, 2014

Yesterday I went for a short hike around one of my regular stopping places in the Cascade Mountains at Gold Creek Pond at the very top of Snoqualmie Pass, just east of Seattle. Toward the top of the pass, it just started snowing, and there was a couple of inches of fresh snow around the pond, with lots of evidence of beaver activity – including drag marks through the snow where cut down trees were dragged toward the new dam they had recently built. It was peacefully quiet, except for the wind through the trees and the occasional song sparrow or American dipper splashing at the water’s edge. This beautiful place may be just a blank place on the map, but to me it’s paradise.
