I’m adding this set of photos a few months after I made them in California because I just wasn’t positively sure what exactly species I was looking at until a very experienced birder friend of mine on Facebook pointed out all the reasons that this is a prairie falcon. I hadn’t even heard of this species until that point. I kept thinking peregrine falcon with a pale head. That said, here are the photos finally….

Prairie Falcon
A prairie falcon streaks past, pivots and dives while hunting along a large cliff in Northeastern Califonia in rural Modoc County. Very similar yet only slightly diminished in size and speed as its distant cousin, the peregrine falcon, the prairie falcon makes its home in the wide, open prairies and arid deserts of the American West interior.
